Six Rivers Parents and Students

Thanks to all those parents and students who reached out to ask questions or simply send a friendly message to our staff as we ponder the best next steps.  We are not working in isolation. Six Rivers is working as a team to craft a way forward that contains balance and perspective. For example, one thing we discovered right away as we met today is that we miss our bulletin with its "This Day in History", the "Fact of the Day", and, of course, the joke of the day. Simply put we already miss the sense of routine and, based upon, what I have heard from students so do they.  So today, I posted our first joke of the day courtesy of Ms. Froloff on our school social media which is linked from our webpage. AND I invite submissions of students sharing jokes that Koczera would love, facts that would astound Darlene, and Historical events that would make me tell a story.  Using the example that Froloff set, send video clips to my email and they may appear on an Instagram account near you.

Today there were also the following bits of information to share:

Google Classroom: By now your child should have received a number of notifications from the Google Classrooms of their teachers. Students should be checking their email for notifications each and every day.  A few parents have asked about receiving a summary from the student's Google Classrooms to monitor and support the learning of their child.  In the words of Melanie Zapper, "I think the best thing to do would be to ask the guardians who are not receiving the summaries to send an email to the teacher they want to be included with and then as teachers, we can add them."  Email addresses for teachers can be found under the contact us tab of our web page.  The direct link for help with Classroom for parents is https://support.google.com/edu/classroom/answer/6388136?hl=en

Student Support:  Eileen Klima the student assistance counselor for Arcata and Six Rivers is available to support students in need or direct you to other resources available in the community.  Follow this link to connect with Mrs. Klima.  Mrs. Klima will review responses several times a day Monday- Friday from 8:15 to 3:30pm and contact you as soon as she is available.

Feeding our Community:  For children and young adults up to age 18, our lunch program will be providing brown bag meals to go at Arcata and Mckinleyville High Schools. Food will be distributed with the following schedule.

Monday - 11:30am to 1:00pm (breakfast and lunch for three days)
Thursday - 11:30am to 1:00pm (breakfast and lunch for two days)

Pirate Parents and Parent Advisory Committee will meet virtually in the coming weeks. These will be open meetings for the public. Please watch for more information on how to take part. In the meantime, if you have questions please send an email.

Best of luck in the coming days. Please stay safe and well.
