About Me
I was born and raised in Ottumwa, Iowa. My parents were also teachers! I received my AA in 1999 at Indian Hills Community College and then went on to the University of Iowa. I graduated with a BFA in Intermedia Art in 2001. After graduation, I became a paraeducator at the Youth Emergency Shelter School in Iowa City, helping to educate students waiting for foster care. After moving to California in 2005, I participated in YouthServe AmeriCorps and then StraightUp AmeriCorps. In 2008, I graduated from Humboldt State with my Mild/Moderate Education Specialist Credential and then added Moderate/Severe in 2009. Six Rivers was my first teaching job, in the 2008/2009 school year. In 2010, I was transferred to Arcata High to teach in the Riverbend Program for students with emotional/mental health concerns. In 2013, I was given the opportunity to return to Six Rivers and have been happily serving here ever since! I love to work with such an amazing staff and am very proud of our inclusive program for special education services.
In September 2021 I became a mom for the first time. My twins, Isikeli and Mereia, are the loves of my life.
